FOREIGN POLICY STRATEGY OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA IN THE ERA OF XI JINPING

Abstract

The article considers the main directions of China’s foreign policy during the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping. It is noted that the study of the place and role of the People’s Republic of China – the second largest economy in the world, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, a nuclear and space state that really claims the status of a new superpo- wer – is relevant due to the need to determine and develop regional priorities of the foreign policy of the Belarusian state. To understand the reasons for Xi Jinping’s formation of new foreign policy ideas, the analysis of the foreign policy concepts of previous Chinese leaders – Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao – was carried out. It is emphasised that the goals and objectives of the Chinese state’s foreign policy are aimed at creating favorable conditions for the development of the coun- try’s economy and were determined by the state of the national economy, the economic and political weight of the PRC in the international arena. Thus, the transformation of China into the second economy of the world in 2010 was the main reason for Xi Jinping’s transition from Deng Xiaoping’s policy of keeping in the shadows to a new foreign policy concept of great power diplomacy with Chinese specifics. In this regard, special attention is paid to the consideration of the modern foreign poli- cy of the People’s Republic of China. A detailed description is given of the key components of China’s foreign policy strategy of the Xi Jinping era – the concept of community of the сommon destiny of mankind and the Belt and Road project and the participation of the Republic of Belarus in the implementation of the Silk Road Economic Belt project. The decisions of the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China concerning the issues of the country’s foreign policy are also analysed.
